History

Interactive Since 1958
When Lester Wunderman founded Wunderman, Ricotta & Kline 50 years ago, he did it to pursue his vision of a radically different approach to communications.

Back then, he did revolutionary things, such as create communications that encouraged an immediate response, segment customers in smart, behavior-based ways and continually apply customer learning to everything he did. In other words, he envisioned marketing as an interactive medium.

By the time Lester Wunderman famously coined the term “Direct Marketing” at an address at MIT in 1967, he had already been practicing it for many years. Widely known as the inventors of the 800 number and the very first people to use database marketing, the company that’s now Wunderman has always been ahead of its time.

Today, in spite of revolutionary transformations in platforms and technology, the core principles are still the same. Wunderman’s been interactive for 50 years. We can hardly wait to see what the next 50 years are going to look like.
