Take Our Stuff

Take Our Stuff

“Like it? Take it.”
You’ll see that phrase on every page of our site. Everything here—videos, articles, even the source code—is yours to digg, del.icio.us, copy from or co-opt. Just click the "Take it" link and go from there.*

We believe in the power of a good idea. And the power of one good idea to generate the next. When you use our stuff, it helps us all do better work. So go ahead. Take our stuff. We’ve got plenty more where that came from. And just think: if this is what we give you as a visitor to our site, just imagine what you get as a client.

How We Built Wunderman.com
The content on this site is available in three formats: Silverlight, Flash and as XHTML. This gives you the best of three worlds: the superlative quality of Silverlight video, the advanced interaction possible with Flash and the universal compatibility of XHTML. The Silverlight version of the site was built by our partners at StudioCom Bogota.

When a user first accesses the site, we use Javascript to determine which version(s) of the site their browser is equipped to view, and set a cookie based on the result. As each module within the site is accessed, we use the cookie to “gracefully degrade” the module through the presentation technologies to one the user is capable of viewing. As a side benefit of this approach, all the text within the site is accessible to and semantically optimized for search engines. If you want to use this technique on your own site, simply download the browser-sniffing script from the link at right.

All three technologies are fed from the same XML files, ensuring that identical content is displayed by each presentation layer.

Throughout the site, we encourage visitors to bookmark, copy and/or embed our content within their own sites. Our partner for this distribution is Gigya.com, and the widget distribution mechanism is free from their site. We use Atlas to monitor site traffic, Gigya to track off-site integration of content widgets and NuComony, a WPP partner, to infer behavioral data and customize the “Related Items” for each visitor.
